What term is used to describe traveling on mostly by foot, almost without budget?

So, how to describe the way of traveling, pretty close to monk-style wandering around, mostly by foot or hitch-hiking, having just sleeping bag, some grains for food and a guitar for extra cash?

Not backpacking, as backpacking usually includes staying in cheap hostels or camping grounds, and having enough amount of money for meals in burger king… Also tramping somehow doesnt really describe that way of traveling.
