I understand your problem. Many of the “tourist” services do close for the winter – I doubt for example that the cruise boats will be running on Loch Ness.
But there will still be bus and train services! Doesn’t really matter which way you go, scenery is beautiful. Fort William buses take you down Loch Ness; trains run north toward Wick and west to Kyle (great scenery on that line!).
If you like walking, you can get off somewhere, walk to the next stop and catch the next bus or train back from there. [Just don't miss it - it could be a long wait!]

I’m not sure that a week will be enough time for you – there are plenty of options still in the winter months, especially if you have a car and use Inverness as a base to see distilleries, castles, the Moray Firth (dolphins), Beauly, …. some fantastic scenery,

Hillwalking very popular. You’ll need to be properly kitted out. It’s warmish just now but the weather up there is very fickle
Aviemore resort
Too early for the snow but the chair lifts may be operating
Have a day out in Aberdeen/ Dundee/ Perth/ Inverness
Cruise Loch Ness
Visit some of the many Scottish Castles in the area
Fort George/ Fort Augustus museums
Visit whisky distilleries, enjoy the samples on offer
Hire a car and tour to Fort William and Ben Nevis
The scenery is FANTASTIC on the West Coast at this time of year
Visit the many Clan memorials and Culloden, the last place a battle was fought in Britain. Great visitor centre.
Enjoy the night life in the pubs. The beer is very good, Belhaven Best is the BEST
Enjoy!! It’s been dry in Scotland for a while, but bring warm clothes and waterproofs.

There is loads to do if you check the net for places of intrest. Check out . If your as far up as inverness I would suggest a drive out to lochinver and enjoy the scenery. Totally stunning. If your thinking of climbing some munroes then check the weather forecast well in advance. Enjoy your holiday.
