I went to Hong Kong, down the east coast of Australia, all over New Zealand, and then to Bangkok but only for 2 months, this cost me just over 3 grand (stirling) (I was too impatient to wait to save more)
so I would imagine you woud be looking at 10 grand + for a year depending on whether you are going to work whilst you are there!

Good luck, it is something you absolutely must do, I'm saving again to go for longer next time!

Assume £2k for the flights and £40 per day.

And that's being frugil with good planning and reduced living standards - so add £1000 to cover the occasional blow out. You'll need it.

You can get working holiday visas for New Zealand and Australia; but you won't get paid for much. So assume working 1 third of the time and living it up the rest.

On the back of an envelope - say £15k. You can reduce that if you are prepared to work more of your time there - but that would depend on the work being available and your back holding out. Do some research on time of the year to go and how to get the work.
