what do you make of US policy to make British tourists to have to get permission for entry three days before?

It was reported earlier that travellers will have to apply online to the US department of Homeland security from Jan 12th. They will have to provide, names, passport numbers, date of birth and destination. Is this combating terrorism or just another step to 1984?

1984 has been and gone. It was quite uneventful. The USA have a right to do as they wish and we should take a leaf out of their book.
Just life in the 21st century.. It will only get worse..
it’s just another step too far as far as i’m concerned. It’s bad enough that I have to take my kid to US embassy in Belfast for an interview everytime she visits her uncle and aunt in the US for the Summer……..
US is building a wall.
The only question is if it is to keep people out or to keep people in.
I really like widget makers observation. I have not read anything about this. As long as they keep the process a smooth one and not just another step to harass people wanting to visit, sounds like a good deterrent for terrorist activity. Is it just the British or will tourists from every country have to go through this process. An alternative around this is to just fly to Mexico and walk across the border and if any border agents try to stop you, sue them. Seems to have worked for some illegals.
Entry into the US is such a hassle these days that this will just be an added one. We have the architects of world terrorism to thank for this,
not to mention a paranoid Homeland security department.
We had to do that last year. Whats the problem i think Britain should follow suit
just give us time we got obama to fix bushes mess . our borders will be open soon
Our own governments should be requiring the same of them.It makes sense to be fore warned of anyone entering your country.Would you answer the door and ask someone in before enquiring as to who they are and what they want?
Spain has required the same information from people (for quite some time now) who are intending to fly there, I am flying to Malaga next friday to spend a few days relaxing in my brothers’ villa (de-stress time yay) and when I booked my flight I was informed that:
‘if you are flying to Spain (including the Canaries and Balearic Islands) advanced passenger information is required by the airline who in turn are required to forward on to the Spanish authorities before flight departure’
which is the same thing in my book, it’s just that America is doing it more directly, ie: leaving it up to the traveller not the airline, I had to pass on my passport number, date of birth and also destination – what’s the difference ?
I have just got my authority to go to the US as my wife and I go there every 12 months, it took 2 minutes and they want to know very little details except passport which you have to show whever you go in the world and date of Birth and where you will be staying. What is your problem, the only people who need to worry have got something to hide, its about time that we in the UK did the same thing, then perhaps we wouldn’t be inundated with everybody else’s rejects
