The atmosphere in the UAE isn't welcoming one bit. It is true that UAE is a moderate country as far as politics are concerned but all the same, there's a lot of anti-American and anti-western sentiment prevailing amongst the arabs there, if you get lucky, you might even have one of them give you the finger! (as it happened to me personally)

In Dubai, you cannot drink, you have restrictions about what you wear, and you cannot declare openly that you're American in all places.

I hated my experience in Dubai, wouldn't dream of even flying over that place ever again.

It is a business hub so you can expect plenty of people with heavy pockets! For people from the US, I don't think so! Dubai Shopping Festival is the only time when people flock in from all across the globe and that too because of relaxed visa rules and flight cost. The cost of spending the vacations in Dubai is quite high so usually US public opt for some other places like Hawaii or perhaps London.

It's not a popular tourist destination , full stop. But they are trying hard to make it so.

Have a look at the hotels and National Tourism website http://dubaitourism.co.ae/ and here http://www.cheaperthanhotels.com/United-Arab-Emirates/Dubai/

You'll see one of the World's most luxurious hotels here and for this reason alone it signifies the bold attempt to get tourism on the map - big time.
